Starting on a new old idea
One day I wrote, in a obscure folder on my PC, some ideas based on old games that would feel nice to play with touchscreen devices. After crossing out ideas that already floods game stores I ended with the Pipe Dream or Pipe Mania. Probably were other options, but this one appealed to me because I remember playing it so much as a kid.
So there I was searching for a way to play and its pretty easy to find and play it online. The result: I got bored after the first level, mainly because it’s the same thing but faster and randomized. The score system was the only thing trying to hook the player, but that does not work for me. Scores may matter when I play in a group of friend, but alone it is just a number.
So, looking aside the boredom, I can see some potential in the mechanics. Actually a lot of people see potential in pipe dream`s mechanics, this game was modified and included in many AAA games as mini games to hack stuff. Its just there so the player can fell the agency of doing something that otherwise would be pressing a button.
Returning to my idea, it is to use that game mechanics and make a new game (ow great idea!). Probably will be too simple, but I have to keep it simple to be able to finish it alone and I wrote so history, characters, progression and game mechanics I'd like to try and hid in this obscure folder I mentioned before. This happened about a year ago, and it stayed archived as I changed from learning Unreal to Unity and flirted with Godot. And now, I finally feel that I have what it takes to do a simple game like this without following a tutorial in the Unity Engine.
That's it for the idea, now I have to search if I can get in trouble for using the game mechanics from pipe dream to do my own game.
